BEAR

He was born in 1960 in Moscow. In 1980, he graduated from the Artistic School to Memorize 1905. In 1982, he became member of the Union of Artists of the USSR . In the perestroika time, he was among the first to settle down in the famous Furmanny, the rehoused building in Furmanny Pereulok where artistic studios were also occupied by the Mukhomory, Vadim Zakharov, Yury Albert, Aldrey Filippov, World Champions. Late in the 1980’s, against the background of global changes and foreigners’ enthusiasm about the Soviet “perestroika”, Alexander Zakharov became widely known in the West and, by signing a contract with Stewart Levi’s New York based gallery, moved to the U.S.A. In the 1990’s, he regularly held personal exhibitions in Soho’s best galleries. He lived and worked in his own studio in Manhatten.
